Friendsgiving ,VSG Style: Hug ’Em While Your Heart Is Fully Present

There’s something sacred about the people who’ve seen you through the mess and the magic. Not your blood family this time—your chosen family. The ones who have watched you shed old versions of yourself, clap for your glow-ups, and quietly slide a plate in front of you when life knocked the wind out of your chest.

That’s what Friendsgiving is about.

What Is Friendship, Really?

By definition, friendship is a relationship of mutual affection, trust, and support between people. But if you grew up like many of us did, especially in Black families and communities, friendship is more than a line in a dictionary.

Friendship is:

  • The friend who shows up with foil pans and Grape soda when the world is heavy.

  • The one who reads between your “I’m fine” and your silence.

  • The ok, only socks in the house .

  • The people who remember you before the titles, the degrees, the brands, the followers.

In troubled times, it is often our friendships that pull us back, lift us up, and clear the road toward light. When the news is too loud, the world feels unfamiliar, and life is doing “the most,” your friends become a soft place to land and a strong place to rise from.

In This New and Different World, Save Them a Seat

We are living in a new and different world—faster, noisier, and more divided than ever. That’s exactly why Friendsgiving matters.

This year, don’t just send the “We gotta get together soon” text. Create a real, special seat for your friends.

What you GOT ???
What you GOT ???

Set the table with intention:

  • A chair that says, “You belong here, exactly as you are.”

  • A plate that says, “You don’t have to perform here.”

  • A glass that says, “Refill—on joy, on rest, on comfort.”

Laugh and giggle like little kids.Unpack a few things that need a timeout—old stories, old hurts, old inside jokes.Have fun. Turn up the music, rise and fly bid whist or spades, forget the diet, forget the to-do list, and let yourself just be silly and present.

The Menu: Leftovers, Remix

Friendsgiving doesn’t have to be fussy or “Pinterest perfect.” In fact, some of the best tables are built on leftovers and love.

Let it be:

  • That pan of mac and cheese making its second appearance

  • Cornbread that taste like somebody’s grandmother is still in the room

  • Collard greens that saw Thursday's service and reheat friends weekend

  • Random takeout containers, a half finished sweet potato pie, that one friend’s famous potato salad and eggnog martini's

Mostly yummy leftovers from the family table, blended into something new for your friends family. That’s grown-woman resourcefulness. That’s community care.

And because this is VSG, you already know : Wear something soft, stretchy, and fly. A little shimmer, an easy waistband, a top that lets you reach for seconds and still feel cute in the photos. Adulting, but make it stylish.

The Shop at VSG has real-life, affordable looks because style is wholeness—and a little extra in the pocket will never make the moment small, just smart.

Friends, Living Single, and How Fast the Years Go

For many of us, our picture of friendship was shaped by the shows we watched in the ’90s.

We saw six young Black professionals in Brooklyn navigating love, career, and community on Living Single—Khadijah, Synclaire, Regine, Max, Kyle, and Overton—laughing and loving in that brownstone. The show ran through the ’90s and gave us a blueprint for ride-or-die friendship rooted in Black culture, hustle, and humor.

Then along came Friends, with its own crew—Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross—sipping coffee at Central Perk and figuring out adulthood together in Manhattan.

Two different shows, two different lenses—but at the heart? Oh,do not forget so NYC.

The same thing: you don’t have to do life alone.

Now here we are: today November, 2025.Those pilots aired over 30 years ago. The years slide by, whether we are paying attention or not.

That’s your reminder: You must live just a little fuller and a little freer.

Adulting in the Best Way

Real adulting isn’t just paying bills and answering emails. Real adulting is:

  • Knowing who your people are

  • Making space for them on purpose

  • Letting them see you with your wig tilted, your lashes off, your heart wide open

  • Saying, “I love you, and I’m glad we’re still here.”

So this Friendsgiving, before the plates are scraped clean and everyone heads back into their busy lives:

  • Look around your table.

  • Take a breath.

  • Hug them while your heart is fully present.

Because in a world that keeps changing the rules, friendship is still one of the flyest, most powerful forms of wealth we have.

VSG Receipt: Queen Latifah & Showing Up Plus One of the early confirmations in my style journey was working with Queen Latifah—long before “body positivity” was a hashtag. Watching her walk into a room tall, plus-size, confident, and camera-ready sent a message to every sassy, young, thick girl paying attention:

You are not “too much.” You are the moment.

The way she wore suits, hats, leather, denim, and drama with ease cracked open doors that so many of us are still walking through. It proved that style, power, softness, success, and curves can live in the same body without apology.

VSG stands on that lineage. When I talk about “Greater Later” and dressing women in real, wearable style, I’m carrying those receipts—from Seventh Avenue to real life with women like Queen Latifah—into everything I bring to The Shop and the Haven.https://www.vsg-verystylishgirl.com/category/all-products ,Happy Friendsgiving.
